Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are statements of purpose that instructors write for our courses. SLOs allow instructors to define what hope to see in students’ work, so they can design and grade their assignments accordingly.
The reflective and metacognitive writing assignments in this course are designed to achieve the following SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
1) Employ strategic and adaptive decision-making in their academic work, including effective time management, planning for multiple commitments and multi-step projects, effective use of college resources and support services.
2) Critically examine their experiences to identify how these can be assets in their academic work and to realistically assess their personal strengths and areas for improvement.
3) Consider their role as active and engaged members of scholarly communities, including how they contribute to these communities, and how participating in these communities affects their education.
This doesn’t mean that every reflective assignment you complete this term will require you to do all three of these things, nor does it mean that your instructor expects you to do any of these things proficiently at the beginning of the term. Rather these SLOs represent the kind of reflective writing we hope you’ll be able to complete by the end of this course.
